Privacy.Kept simple.
Dumb Phone is designed to perform its work on your iPhone without a Bad Herring account, analytics service or advertising network.
Data collection
Bad Herring does not collect personal data, Screen Time data, selected-app information, usage analytics, advertising identifiers, or diagnostic telemetry through Dumb Phone.
Screen Time selections
You choose apps, categories and web domains through Apple’s Family Activity picker. Apple gives Dumb Phone privacy-preserving tokens for those choices. The app stores the tokens and blocking preferences locally in an App Group on your device so its Screen Time extensions can apply your settings.
Dumb Phone cannot use those category tokens to enumerate every installed app in a selected category, and it does not transmit the tokens to Bad Herring.
Activity information
Any Screen Time report shown by Dumb Phone is produced through Apple’s Device Activity framework and remains within the app’s protected on-device environment. Dumb Phone does not upload or export that information.
Purchases
Optional in-app purchases are processed by Apple. Dumb Phone uses StoreKit to determine whether a purchase is active and caches that access state locally. Bad Herring does not receive your payment-card details. Apple’s handling of App Store purchases is governed by Apple’s own privacy policy.
Accounts and third parties
Dumb Phone has no Bad Herring account system, advertising SDK or third-party analytics SDK. The app does not sell or share personal information.
Retention and deletion
App settings and privacy-preserving tokens stay on your device until you change them, revoke Screen Time authorization, or remove the app. Revoking authorization invalidates the tokens provided by Apple.
Questions
For privacy questions, contact Bad Herring. Do not include Apple Account credentials, payment details, or sensitive Screen Time information.
